Amy Hoffpauir is based at 37XA, Skydive Houston Airport, Waller, Texas.
I am a second generation pilot. I grew up in the back seat of my dad’s C195 that we’ve had since I was 3. I started towards my license at age 18 in our Aeronca champ, but as life occurs, did not achieve my private until age 38. I am a low time pilot of 220 hours. I only have 4 nose wheel hours.
I got my license in my 1947 Stinson 108-3, and bought my Gullwing 1943, V77 before I soloed the 108-3. I’ve had the Gullwing going on my 2nd year now.
We knick named her “Ptera”, short for Pteradactyl b/c of her size. From May 2012 to Jan 2013, she was down for much needed TLC. I work side by side with my AP gettting her locking tailwheel working, fixing the flaps, patching the fabric, fixing numerous oil leaks, adjusting valves, pulling the prop, the list goes on…. I am never satisfied that I get to fly as much as I’d like b/c I run my own business.
I dream of getting my IFR rating and maybe my AP. Â It’s just always been taildraggers. I’m a fan of the 1940-1950’s era of airplanes, so I have a love for round motors and tailwheels. Â I first heard about ya’ll last year from a fellow 195 club member.
