Sep 2013 Beechcraft Heritage Museum, Tullahoma, TN
You know it’s going to be a great day when a red-hot Supercub taxis into the backyard and pilot Donna Guerin and her friend hop out! It was such a treat to see them and have them join me for a special tour of the Beechcraft Heritage Museum. Of course, I would pick a Monday, the day they are closed, to come to Tullahoma and visit the museum. Miraculously Sharon Tinkler called her buddy Wade McNabb, curator and CEO of the museum and asked him to give us a private tour – and he said yes!!
We spent 2 hours getting the inside scoop on everything from this Staggerwing Serial #1 to the very strange, privately modified V-tail twin “Super V Bonanza” to the 2000A Starship with pusher engines.
Wade showed us the model #1’s early “flap” design. Incredible.

The museum consists of several building beginning with Staggerwings, the Louise Thaden office & library, the Baron hangar and lots more. This is a must see stop for all pilots and if you can get Wade to give you the tour, all the better!

Donna had to fly that gorgeous Supercub back home mid-afternoon but Sharon had another surprise up her sleeve. Catherine Cavagnaro lives a 30 mile hop from Tullahoma and planned to fly her C150 Aerobat over for a quick visit but thunderstorms and low ceilings got in her way. No problem, Sharon and I hopped in her car and made the quick trip through the hills of Tennessee. It was great catching up with Catherine and talking airplanes with a couple of ladies that know their stuff.
I’m lovin’ my flying adventure so far!
