Bill Finney: 8 Random things I love about my taildragger

More from Men’s Day on LadiesLoveTaildraggers! Bill Finney flies a 1951 Cessna L-19 Birddog out of Muncie, Indiana and didn’t have any trouble coming up with 8 things he loves about his taildragger. I know this guy and trust me, he does LOVE it! Bill says, “When I bought this airplane, I figured I would keep it for 2 or 3 years and then move on to something else.  You can see how that worked out!”

#1 It is MY airplane.

At Lee Bottom Airport

#2 I once got to take Judy Birchler for a ride in it.

#3 It is a fun airplane to fly with lots of power (213 HP) and flaps (60 degrees).

#4 It is a simple and reliable airplane.  Fixed pitch prop and fixed gear.

#5 It was at Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1970 when I went through Fixed Wing Army Flight Training, so I may have flown it when it was still a military airplane.

#6 I have flown it to Oshkosh 23 times and flew in 50 airshows there over the years.  It is neat to be invited to fly a Warbird in other airshows where they give you fuel, food, rental cars, motel rooms, and free admission.

#7 I learned to fly formation in it and am qualified as a four ship wingman and two ship lead at airshows.

#8 I have taken at least 243 different people for rides over the years to give a Warbird ride experience.
