Fueled up, preflight done, posed with our bird departing Newport, AR this morning.
Departing M19, Newport, AR. Climbed on top of a thin layer and headed s.w.
Rapids over the Arkansas River in view; anyone remember Burt Reynolds & the movie Deliverance?!
Who knew s.w. Arkansas was rice farming country?!
Hot Springs was to have been our fuel stop between M19 & KSLR but low ceilings forced us to change our plans. We landed at KSUX, Saline County as an alternate, a terrific choice. Great airport manager who recently bought a C120 and will be flying it in the Air Race Classic to OSH. He loves Rans S7s by the way!
We monitored wx constantly and steered way clear. We would have made to KSLR if it hadn’t been for this late afternoon big booger.
Alternate was Texarkana. Just too fun to make ’em wait for a Rans S7 on final at Texasarkana Airport.
KTXK still has phone booths…. full of mops and brooms!
My backpack goes to all fly-ins with me. I love my flying and Indy 500 pins!
And just a little info about where we find ourselves tonight, Texarkana, AR/TX. The state line cuts right down the center of this city. The airport is in Arkansas and our motel right down the road is in Texas. SOOOO, the first thing we saw hopping out of the plane was a funny little bird with a very long, strange tail. Turns out it’s a Scissor-tailed flycatcher, aka the Texas bird of paradise. It’s great to be in Texarkana!
