I’m sad to report we’ve lost one of our lady taildragger pilots. Elaine Huf and her husband Tom Huf passed away Sunday when their Cessna T-50 ‘Bamboo Bomber’ crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Elaine was well known for her pink 1947 L16-A she loving named “Rudolph”. She also owned a 1941 Baby Stinson 10A. Elaine & Tom had flown from their home in Kingsley, Pennsylvania to Blakesburg, Iowa for the Antique Airfield flyin and were on the return flight home when the accident happened. They were flying to their farm strip PS50 when the T-50 went down in a thunderstorm just 3 miles from their field.

Elaine has been a member of LLT for more than three years and even though we’d talked on the phone and exchanged many emails, last week at Blakesburg was the first time we actually met. She was a fun, interesting, accomplished private pilot with Glider, Seaplane (in a 90hp Cub) and Instrument ratings. She told me at Blakesburg she would rather have flown her “chubby” Stinson or her pink “Rudloph” to Blakesburg. Sorry that didn’t happen. Services pending.
