Help me write our Scholarship!

Brittany Reinbolt from Searcy, Arkansas, our 2016 LadiesLoveTaildraggers Tailwheel Endorsement Scholarship winner.

That’s right. With your help, we can write the perfect Ladies Love Taildraggers Scholarship Application. GoFundMe donations have passed the 80% mark, and although we need to raise at least $5000 to proceed with advertising the 2019 LadiesLoveTaildraggers Scholarships, I’m beginning to think we might get there. Many thanks for a donation today from Luscombe lady, Sharon Tinkler! If you have not yet had the opportunity to support our mission, please click on GoFundMe or mail your donation directly to Ladies Love Taildraggers, 7231 Elm Ridge Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46236. Either way, I thank you and so will our 2019 Scholarship winners!

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed in my years of taildragger flying, it’s that women pilots are honest to a fault in their degree of flying skills self-evaluation. Men, not so much. Ha! Call me sexist, call me whatever you want, but truth is, women often times are perfectionists and won’t give themselves a break. Men on the other hand exude confidence, real or not, and just get out there and plow through it, hoping for the best.

Now you might think I’d say, well, men are crazy, but I believe that knowledge and common sense can take you anywhere. I believe in myself, I believe in confident women pilots, and I also believe in women pilots (including student pilots) who are striving to be everything they can be.

I know I’m shaking things up a bit but I want our 2019 scholarship winners to specifically “fit” the CFI’s they’ll be working with. That means women CFIs who can best address the specific goals of each scholarship winner. My job will be to select the 2019 scholarship winners, fit them to skilled women CFIs, fill in the funding gaps as necessary, and help our ladies achieve their aviation goals. BAM! We can do it!

I’ve written this “draft” statement intended to be part of our scholarship application but would love your input. It will be followed by a series of questions regarding an applicant’s level of confidence in a variety of flying situations.

This year’s scholarships will target specific individual needs and, for the first time, is a “Design Your Own Scholarship” system. Keep in mind, funds are limited so be precise and conscious of the value of your request. Women CFIs are volunteering to assist but often times funding for aircraft and travel expenses will come from scholarship donations. Whether you are chosen for a 2019 scholarship depends on your ability to convey your strengths and pinpoint the skill(s) you feel need improvement. You’ll be asked a variety of questions followed by an opportunity to ‘write your own scholarship’; i.e. how LadiesLoveTaildraggers can help you achieve your aviation goals.

I need feedback & input! I need to know what you’d like to see in a taildragger flight-training scholarship. Obviously, tailwheel endorsements first and foremost! Beyond that, I have advanced training suggestions from taildragger pilots I intend to incorporate. The more feedback the better we can make this. Let’s get the most bang for our bucks and give a leg up to as many women as possible.

Please donate at GoFundMe.com!!
