Jan 2022 I Got Very Hungry in Arkansas today
I got very hungry in Arkansas today but happy to report, I found the fix.
Boyd and I headed towards Texas this morning in our bright & shiny, yellow RV7, for a full month of flying. We broke free of the midwest and are on our way to fly the entire Lone Star State over the next 30 days. We’re excited and pumped to finally be flying another adventure together, determined to visit anything and everything that strikes our fancy all month long.
Since our goal is Texas we decided not to wander around much en route and get there ASAP. Lucky for us, if you draw a straight line from IND to our 1st TX destination, Mustang Beach, it brings you to the doorstep of a foodie lover’s paradise, one that deserved we deviate slightly as we flew south. It’s seriously a must-visit destination in its own right, Grinders Field (KPBF) at Pine Bluff in the middle of Arkansas. To be even more specific, it’s THE AIRPORT RESTAURANT AT GRINDERS FIELD that excites so many “soul food” foodies.

The lovely Owner and staff at Grinder’s Airport Cafe were nice enough to pose for me today. Trust me, there are big, happy smiles behind those masks. 🙂 This group works hard to create their southern magic 5 days a week.
We timed our lunch stop at Grinder’s to arrive between their very narrow hours of operation, Mon. thru Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Timing is everything and we hit the jackpot touching down promptly at 11:30 a.m. We were hungry when we arrived, enjoyed some of the best southern cookin you’ll find anywhere, and left with smiles on our faces.
Trip Advisors gives it a 5 Star rating with many praising reviews. A Harbor Springs, AR pilot left this review…..
Southern cooking at it’s best!
We flew into this airport and I was delighted to find this restaurant was serving up some of the best soul food I’ve had in a really long time. Main items were fried chicken and catfish with a number of choices of vegetables. If you grew up eating this kind of cooking, do yourself a favor… this is the real deal.
- The World’s Best Cornbread Muffins
- Liver and onions
- Corn pudding
- Veggies galore

Past the point of sadness, it’s worth a stroll across the ramp to visit this grand old bird. Yes, for anyone who’s visited KPBF in the last I-don’t-know-how-many-years, the dilapidated, derelict Aero Commander is still there, slowly fading away.
