I’m Just a Girl!

I just finished the book ‘A Hunger for the Sky’ by Sparky Barnes Sargent and totally enjoyed it. The book is a compilation of 9 women pilots’ personal stories made all the more interesting to me because several are LadiesLoveTaildraggers members. One of the women Sparky writes about is Catherine Cavagnaro, a lady taildragger pilot …… and a whole lot more.

Catherine Cavagnaro

Dr. Catherine Cavagnaro

Catherine and LLT member Sandy Newfang (Krier) made a video a few years back that still makes me laugh; they totally nailed the misguided female stereotype. Catherine is the beautiful blond and Sandy the lovely brunette. The wonderful truth is, Catherine is chief flight instructor at Ace Aerobatic School. She holds Airline Transport Pilot and CFI-I certificates. She’s a professor of mathematics at the University of the South, chaired the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and has a PhD in mathematics. She’s served as a spin demonstration pilot at the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) and on flight testing teams for the aircraft icing project.

Ladies, watch it till the end or you’ll just be pissed off! 🙂

I too have an Aerobat, 1975 A150M , had it for 17 years, takin it to 15,500 ft, continuous stall warning at that alt. Flown it to Baja many times, I have a friend in Canada who installed a rotax 914 turbo in his Aerobat and took it past 23,000 ft. Those are great aerodynamics! A little known fact about all 75 and later 150/152s is the vertical fin and rudder is half a foot taller than pre 75s. Better spin recovery.
We also have a bonanza but my plane of choice is the aerobat.
