Jessie Fisher (Texas)

Jessie Fisher, formerly from Crest Airpark, Kent, Washington has relocated and is based at  Bulverde Airpark in the San Antonio, Texas area.

Me in front of C140 right after I passed my check ride

With both parents small plane pilots, one could say that “flying is in my blood.” Growing up I spent most of my time in 180, 210 or Bonanza (more family transport friendly commutes). However, both my parents’ hearts belonged to the classic Luscumbe Silvaire. When it came time for me to get my “wings,” learning in a taildragger was a must. Although it’s not a Luscombe, I’ve grown to love my little rag wing Cessna 140. Just under a month ago I received “my ticket.”

Me in mountains at Smiley Creek airport – Stanley, Idaho – a second home of mine.

I’m from the North West, and have been based out of Crest airpark for the last year. Recently moved to San Antonio, Texas and am excited to get involved in the huge G.A. community down here.

Jessie, I met you and Dale in Llano back in October. I had the red/white 140. I must say your plane is even prettier in person!

As a father of two daughters, it always make me smile when I see women flying. As a guy who hangs out at the airport every weekend, I know it can’t be easy to walk into an almost exclusively boy’s club. Sounds like your parents helped to put the love of flying in your heart.

If the weather is nice, I’m trying to get a bunch of friends to fly over to Boerne this weekend. I’ll send Dale an email in case you two can join!

    Hi Jessie,

My husband and I are building a new 50×80 hanger at E70. We have Grumman Tiger and we have some space to park some other airplane. The hanger will be finished hopefully the end of this month. I don’t know which part of town you live and if you still looking for the hanger space, we are happy to invite you to our hanger for the reasonable fee. Please let us know. The runway at E70 has just reserfaced.

I hope to see you some time because I am learning to fly and I have not met many female pilot.

Wahoo Jessie! Welcome to LLTs! It sounds like the aviation family is taking good care of you guys. It was great working with you both and I hope you have tons of fun flying around the Texas sky. You will be exposed to some VERY different weather, but I’m sure the locals will guide you and you will adapt quickly. Proud of you both. Right rudder!

Summer! Thank you for everything! Great idea on the pic btw. Airplane made it safely to Texas and we’ve been tryin to soak all the info we can from the locals. Stuff moves in, out, up and down very fast out here. If you’re ever in the area let us know. Weather pending we’ll be taking the 140 to a small airport in the Dallas/Fort Worth area this weekend. Take care – Jess

Jessie made the AOPA Aviation ebrief Sep 20 under pilot spotlight.
Thx to Jill Talman at AOPA for bringing awareness of the LLT to the readers and to Judy for her passion with developing and bringing together this special group of women fliers (mostly TD) thru this web site. No…Im not a TD pilot…but at 18 I had my first flight in a Cub. Does that count?

    Congrats to Jessie!

Jessie: If you haven’t heard about it check out Heritage Airpark south of Randolph Air Force Base near LaVernia. It is a wonderful 3,000 foot long grass airpark. We have a 2 acre lot for sell there right on the runway if you’re interested. You can also ask about hangar lots there if you prefer not to live there. Feel free to call us or text us anytime if we can be of any assisstance.

      Hi Ricardo & Cathy,
Thanks so much for the note and suggestion. Yesterday we were able to secure a spot at Bulverde Airpark, which is the easiest commute. Heritage sounds awesome though – we’ll have to go visit!
      Thanks,

I have my 172 at Stinson Field (KSSF) and I love it there. It’s towered, which may be a turn off if you don’t like controlled fields, but I love it. The controllers are great people and it has a great history. It’s the 2nd oldest continuously operated GA field in the U.S. It was also home to Katherine Stinson, who was the 4th woman to earn her pilot certificate in the U.S.

New Braunfels (KBAZ) is best with great approaches, fuel, maintenance,, etc and very reasonable as far as covered parking. New Braunfels Aero Svcs are very nice friendly folks.

Be sure to fly up to Llano,Tx (AQO). Lots of taildraggers here. Stop in to see my C180. A ’59 model with almost the same paint scheme as your 140.

Boerne Stage is a nice airport on the northwest side of San Antonio. Also take a look at Cannon Field, http://www.als-cannonfield.com/, on the south side. Mostly taildraggers there and it’s a friendly grass strip. I’d be happy to meet you there are introduce you.

    Jessie,

Wecome to San Antoio. San Geronimo Airpark (8T8) is another friemdly airport just west of San Antonio. We are a privatelty owned/public use airport and home of EAA Chapter 35. Though we don’t currrently have any hangars availble that does change from time to time. In any case if you’d like to get aquainted with some frienldy aviation folks come to our EAA meeting Oct 13 at 5:30. We have a little dinner and a program. Hope you can make it.

I just talked to a friend of mine who flies to San Antonio regularly and he said that Boerne would be a good place to look. Don’t know who the FBO is but my friend had met him and he says he is a real nice guy. Gook luck with your little plane. We used to have a C 120 and loved it.

    Hi Jessie
Welcome to Texas. I’m not all that familiar with the airports near San Antonio but there are some private fields west of town and one in a little town called Bandera. I haven’t been to it in years but you might check it out.

We live at a private airpark south of Denton TX called Hidden Valley. Our house is for sale but if come north call me and if we’re there we can visit. We spend most of our time in the Big Bend area where we have property next to Fulcher Field. If you have an ipad with fore flight look us up.
