Lady Taildraggers open FL Aviation Center

Way to go Ladies!

Congratulations to lady taildragger pilot Faith D!  Faith, along with friend and new business partner, Lacey Mayer, have opened a new flight school in Tallahassee, Florida. Faith reports their new business does not yet have a taildragger but “we are going to buy a taildragger and provide the only opportunity in the area for pilots to get tailwheel endorsements and upset recovery, too.” Flying to Florida? Looking for flight instruction in the area?

Stop in and see Faith & Lacey at Tallahassee Regional Airport, KTLH!

Lacey & Faith

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our new flight school! FL Aviation Center officially opened on September 1st, here in Tallahassee, FL, and we are ready to meet the needs of our local flying community.

We are a full service flight school providing flight instruction, aircraft rental, aerial photography, scenic flights… and, yes, the rumor is true, pilot supplies! From charts to headsets, cell phone chargers to ice cream, we have it all.

“Real planes have sticks!”

Who is FL Aviation Center? We are a group of pilots who are very passionate about sharing the joy of flight. Our goal is to promote, through our love of aviation and an emphasis on safety, the adventure and fun of learning how to fly.

Anyone interested in aviation, at any skill level, is invited to be a part of our flying family. So come on in, grab a cup of coffee, and hang out on our couches. Any day, and in any weather, you are sure to learn something new!

9/29/12 A note from Faith:

“Just a quick note to let you know that our new flight school, FL Aviation Center, had its grand opening party today – and what a party!  We started with a WINGS seminar at 10 AM that was standing room only, and our offices were filled with eager pilots for the next five hours.  Our hunch that Tallahassee needed a flight school appears to have been right-on.
Here is a link to an article that appeared in today’s paper with a little bit of information about the school and its background.  Although it says we have been open for 90 days, in fact it has been less than 30.  As soon as we get stabilized with enough aircraft to meet the volume of basic training we are providing, we are going to buy a taildragger and provide the only opportunity in the area for pilots to get tailwheel endorsements and upset recovery, too.

If any Lady Taildraggers are passing through north Florida, we would LOVE to meet them and invite them into the school for coffee, hangar chats, and some great flying!”

You’re also invited to Tallahassee Regional Airport’s Funfest. The fun and excitement starts at 10 AM, Saturday, October 6th. See you there!

    Hi Faith
My 15 yr old granddaughter, Lindsay, dreams of being an airline pilot. She’s had a couple of intro flights and I want to help her connect with you and your business to see what exciting things young women can do in aviation.
Could I get your email and/or the website address for FL Aviation Center? I’d like to send you her picture.

Thanks so much, Linda! We are really excited; the article in the newspaper emphasized that we were a women-owned business, and we had several women turn out to see if, finally, they might find a welcoming place to pursue their “unusual” interests! I have never really thought of myself as a role model, but I am thrilled to report that we signed up a young lady who has always wanted to fly, and we also introduced three young girls to the AOPA Avi8rs program. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Thanks so much Linda! We had three ladies at the opening yesterday that came specifically because they saw that it was a flight school run by women and immediately felt that they would be welcomed. One of them starts her training in two weeks!!

You are both an inspiration to young and “not so young” alike. I’m SO impressed. Keep it up!
