August 13, 14 & 15 2010 Lady Taildraggers Summer Fly-in

1st Ever Lady Taildraggers Fly-in

Friday, Sat. & Sun. August 13, 14 & 15, 2010

Rain Date following weekend

Moraine Airpark (I73), Dayton, Ohio

Ladies Love Taildraggers’ Judy Birchler and Susan Theodorelos, Waco owner and lady taildragger, are happy to announce the first ever Lady Taildraggers fly-in!  Mark your calendars… schedule some vacation time……  gather your friends……. and head for Ohio this summer.

For all the details click here: Fly-in Info

Fly-in location “Moraine Airpark”, Dayton, OH

Susan has VERY generously volunteered to host the gathering  and says, ” We have a biiiiiig hangar on the west end of the field with lots of green grass out in front of our hangar that we can all tie down right opposite the hangar. We’ve got a BIG party grill for BBQ’ing — we can fly-out to breakfast at any number of close locales for breakfast on Saturday.”

Camping on field

If there is any interest at all — I can make arrangements for us to fly up to the Waco Museum in Troy for lunch or something like that if it strikes anyone’s fancy — or heck, we can just sit around under wings and catch up on the summer!!  We had 9 airplanes in our hangar one weekend — plus there are a few extra hangars not being used at the moment, so we would have some room if a t-storm should pop up along the way.

There are plenty of hotels nearby — or if you like — bring your tent and pitch it alongside your baby. We have a bathroom in our hangar (no shower, unfortunately — I’m certainly going to have to remedy THAT!) but we can make arrangements for that.

Fly in to Moraine Airpark!!

For anyone that would like a rental car, we can make arrangements with a local car rental place to have cars on the field when you arrive.

So let us know what you think! If you plan on attending … post a comment here and we can all figure out some details. You can also visit our FORUM and click on “Let’s Have a Fly-in!!!” where everyone can chat about the big event.  Susan has already warned all the “guys” at the airport – THEY will be in charge of cooking the food while WE fly!!

We all can do a little of this – just like Susan in her Waco!!

We certainly know there are lots of people living a long way away that won’t be able to make it — but hey — gather the ladies where you are — Susan says she has enough geeky computer friends she can even set up a web cam or something!

from Judy….

and from Susan…

…….plan now to attend the Ladies Love Taildraggers Fly-in!!

Steve and I are bringing the Waco down for Saturday. Can’t wait to see everyone. I’ll try to get more on Kelly’s wedding. I’ve seen some awesome photos since they are both here at C77 this week after honeymoon. Some of the airplane/hangar shots done by a gal in OSH are “one of a kind”!

This is a fabulous idea! I hope you ladies have a great time. If I can slip down for a day and if it’s OK to bring a trike (I’ll hide it on ramp somewhere ; )) I may come for the day.

Terri, I sure hope you can make it over too – sounds like you’re overdue for a visit back to Moraine and I’d surely like to finally meet you! I’ve been out of 120/140’s for a long time but still wish we had the one we sold to Les Bryant back. It looks better now than it ever has!

Hope I can make it Judy! I hosted the International Cessna 120/140 Convention there in Sept. 2008. George B is awesome to work with!

Sarah, I’m so glad to hear you are coming to the fly-in!! It’s been a long time since Kewanee. Does this mean your Citabria is back in action again? (It was a Citabria I think?) Whatever you fly over in, we’ll all be glad to see you. We still need to get you on this website – be sure and send pictures of your grass strip when you send your pictures in!

    Yippee!! Sarah!!

Not to worry – there will be plenty of “hubbies” around — for which my own will be eternally grateful!

    Looking forward to meeting you!!

    Cheers!

    Judy,

I plan to attend – as long as the weather is at least marginal VFR. I’m bringing my hubby, so I hope yours will be around to entertain him while we ladies have some fun!

    Hi Linda!

Great to hear you will try to come!! Fantastic! I73 is wide open for those of us with no electrical systems! So come on over! We are south of the city of Dayton and along Interstate 75 surrounded by a river — easy to find! Just take note that about 3 miles directly north of the airport is a large network of well lit Radio Towers — 1500ft approximately in height. My husband is my “starter” so we have no problems getting you started as well 🙂

    Looking forward to seeing you!!!!
    Cheers!

I hope to come (weather permitting). What type of airspace is I73. I don’t have an electrical system.

    Hi Anne,

We have a grass strip just as Judy described — what I plan to do (after I get through this next weekend with the Barnstorming weekend) is to use one of the photos we have to mark the grass — it is not on the charts — but almost all the taildraggers at the airport use it exclusively for landing.

I’ll mark the photo so that you can see where not to land because of a few swailes at the boundaries of the grass.

I’ve told the airport manager that he needs to be rolling the grass — otherwise he’ll have a face full of lady taildraggers giving him grief over it! LOLOL

Please feel free to email me if you have any other questions 🙂

Anne, yes there is also parallel grass at Moraine (08 & 26) and I know Susan, who is based there, uses it exclusively. I’m sure she’ll respond to you too with more information but I know you can count on using it.

    Anne!

So looking forward to having you join us! This is going to be so much fun! Good ol’ I73 is getting new taxiways as we speak so she’ll be looking spiffy for us when you get here!

    Oh Nat!

Excellent indeed!!! Heck – two Pitts could fit where one Waco goes! We’ll get you space to tuck your babies into! So looking forward to meeting you both!!!

    Hi Judy and Susan,

This sounds like lots of fun. I’m in the same set of hangars as Hella so I hope we will fly down together. I also have a Pitts (and therefore no tie-down points). I would probably like to stay over for one night and a Pitts is smaller than most planes so I should be able to fit in somewhere. I’m looking forward to it.

What a great idea! I would love to attend! Weather and customs permitting, I will fly down for a ‘day’ trip. If I have to stay overnight, I would need hangar space (no tie downs on a Pitts), but it sounds like you have that covered:) Moraine Airpark looks beautiful.

    Thank you!
