Linda Moody, Instrument ChecKride Day 1-29-11

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented or fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be?”

I have been flying now for six years. I started a little later in life than most. But I always wanted to fly and ever since I was a kid I always loved airplanes. Then I got to a place in my life where I had a little less responsibility. I did not have anyone to take care of, and I wanted to see the world from the top. It is a whole different world up there—it’s beautiful. I have my private pilot’s license, instrument rating, and my complex endorsement as well as the experience of flying two transcontinental women’s air races (Air Race Classic 2008 and 2009). I have given talks on the air racing experience and have developed more and more skills needed to produce aerial videos. I have made a video of the Air Race Classic 2009 and other flying experiences. I am a visual person, having trained as an architect, and the flying develops more visual sensibility. I would like some day to become a certified flight instructor. I am working on my tail wheel endorsement right now. In the last few years I have participated in the Ninety-Nines Treasure Hunt, winning second place in 2009 and coordinated the 2010 Poker Run. I have served as the Eastern New England Chapter secretary for the past three years. I have tried to introduce other women to the Ninety-Nines and acted as a mentor to student members. I own a Cessna 172, which is based in Nashua, NH and fly it often. I am doing my tailwheel training now out of Hampton Airfield in Hampton, NH in a 1947 J-3 Cub.
