LLT Fly-in Beneficiaries

I’m happy to report that attendees to the LadiesLoveTaildraggers C77 Fly-in raised a significant amount of money for some very special organizations:

  • The LLT Poker Run raised $1300 for the OSCAR MIKE Foundation. Oscar Mike Foundation’s mission is to see all injured Veterans utilize their full potential and live rewarding and productive lives.
  • The Saturday evening live auction raised over $3200 for the Poplar Grove Vintage Wings & Wheels Museum and that immediately translated into excellent news for LadiesLoveTaildraggers. The Museum will be sponsoring a $1000 Scholarship with LLT in 2018!
  • Lastly, through financial assistance we were able to get one lady taildragger pilot to this year’s C77 fly-in. Ideally we’ll be able to expand on it next year by providing more financial assistance and ride-sharing when possible.

Thank you to everyone who played a part – you are WONDERFUL!

So how’d we raise big money at our Live Auction? The answer is, one amazing item threw us over the top. Sharon Tinkler from Tullahoma, TN, donated a copy of the U. S. Post Office Air Mail navigation booklet published in 1921. Please read the following from Bill Tinkler who went to great lengths to get a copy from the Library of Congress and flew the actual route in his 1946 Luscombe a number of years ago.

Terri started the opening bid for the booklet at $500. Everyone gasped. Sharon gasped!

Then it started. $500… $600 …. $1000 …. $1200…. $1400.… $1500. Will anyone give me $1550? Will anyone give me $1550? Going once. Going twice. SOLD $1500!!  OMG, cheers erupted and everyone hooped and hollered. It had to be thrilling for Sharon Tinkler, for the winner and for the Poplar Grove Wings and Wheels Museum. And I have to say it was also downright fun and exciting for me and everyone else who attended.

It was a great auction and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the SECOND most poplar auction item. Actually, 6 of them sold in lots of 2. Taildragger White Rum!

Taildragger Rum! Who knew there was such a thing? Don’t quote me but I believe these lovely bottles went for over $150 each?!  🙂  Photo by Sandy Hare
