Melanie Amos
Hi. My name is Melanie Amos. I am 27 years old and have held a private pilots’ license since December 2005! My parents own an amazing grass strip in Gentry, AR. “Cherokee Strip” (1AR5) is my favorite place in the whole world! I absolutely love aviation.
I fly a Hatz biplane that is loaned to me by my good friend Dave Foley from “Airman Acres” in Collinsville, OK.
My dad owns an Aeronca “Defender” that I get to fly all the time! I recently purchased a Hatz biplane of my own, with one problem… It needs an engine. Hoping to get one soon! I have flown many more types of taildraggers. Â I love it! My favorite airplanes are open cockpit biplanes or anything from the world war 1 era!
My favorite fly in is Blakesburg (and Cherokee Strip’s of course)! I am a crew chief on an A-10 Warthog for the 188th Fighter Wing in Fort Smith, AR – Air National Guard. I deployed to Afghanistan in March 2010 and was able to put my skills to real use!

I love meeting new fellow fliers. Things on my bucket list include: wingwalking, fly biplane to Recklaw, fly a DC-3, and I am sure I will think of more soon… I can’t wait to meet you all!
