Mar 2010 Nic Orchard (UK)
Nic Orchard is based at Maypole (EGHB), United Kingdom and “temporarily” flew this Jodel until her Aeronca Champ was rebuilt.
Please meet Nic Orchard, our second  trans Atlantic lady taildragger!  Nic’s base airfield is Maypole (EGHB) and tells us she lives in Deal which is a small, old town on the coast north of Dover.  I work on the English Channel on a ferry – not many offices have the white cliffs of Dover as a view.   Nic can be reached at nicbearcraft@aol.com.
The above picture is “Temporary Champ” (that’s her name) – a great machine. Over here and in France of course, there are many flying and they are the great unsung heroes for cheap touring and farm strip flying. Had I not found the Champ, I’m sure the Jodel would fill that place. People ask on the forums ‘What can I afford on a minuscule budget, keep on a short farmstrip and can go touring in – oh and carry a bag or two?’ The Jodel is one of few that ticks all those boxes, even though I am a Champist through and through.  All wood and notable for that super-efficient cranked wing.  A 1950s classic, so she’s a youngster….
My beloved Aeronca Champ 7BC is under rebuild. Â I’m currently owner of Temporary champ, which is really a Jodel D120.
Here’s one of my favourite pictures used on several avatars. It’s two of my houseful (yes, they all fly and have journals and logbook to prove it – we’re not all locked up yet) enjoying a return to their fatherland when we flew to Tannkosh. Now that was an adventure.
All my US flying friends & contacts are in Florida, the most noteworthy being Pat Hange and Harriet Harman (the latter now deceased), whose names are well-known in some circles.
