I am 67 years young. I’ve been flying since I was 16. Nobody else in my family had ever had any exposure to aviation until I “lost my mind” and started flying. I am an ATP single & multi engine land, Commercial SES & rotorcraft/helicopter. Flight instructor ASMEL, Instrument, Seaplane and helicopter.

I own East Texas Flying Service Inc at KJDD (Wood county Airport-Mineola, TX) a full service FBO & maintenance facility. I have over 10,000 hours in all sorts of airplanes & helicopters. I even ferried a few German Airforce Dorniers from Germany through Sweden, across the North Atlantic and on down to the Bahamas.

I’m looking at buying an Interstate Cadet or a Champ that is located at the Mineola airport. I’m looking for a CFI that can help me finish my private. I have about 22 hours and then Sept 11th happened an stopped flying. I completed ground school back in 1999, and passed my written, but that was over 20 years ago. I figured that I needed a refresher and to go through it again, so I’m registered to take it again. Would you be willing to take on a new student? I’m 55 years old and retired U.S. Air Force.

I wonder if it would be possible to take an instructional flight as a student and claim PIC time? I haven’t flown in about 8 years but have a current Self Assessment Medical Certificate. Most of my time is in C-172’s and C-182’s. And I have some time in a PA-28. Please advise what would be required of me? Regards, Bill Kashouty
