Samantha Sizemore (Arizona)

Samantha Sizemore is based at KCHD, Chandler Municipal Airport, Chandler, Arizona.

I am a 26 year old aviation and space enthusiast! I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Technology, with a minor in Space Commercialization and a Certificate in Airport Management. I was also active in multiple academic space/aerospace clubs and Flight Team at my university.

My goal has always been to be a professional pilot and active in the aerospace community, both in hobby and professionally, but funding has always been a big challenge for me. With parents that show incomes able to aid through college, it was near impossible for me to get funding, and since my parents could not help in reality, I carry a heavy student loan burden and a difficult time finding private student loans for flight training without a co-signer.

However, I did not let that stop me! I now work full time in aerospace at Orbital ATK in the Launch Vehicle Division as a Systems Safety engineer, with a promising future and a continued drive to grow and develop in this company, as well as in my own flight training. Now that I am stable out of college, I hope that I can find the resources to complete my training through multi-commercial, though my romance with aviation lies in tailwheel and aerobatic flying!! I am also an A-licensed skydiver, and I enjoy snowboarding, hiking, dirt biking and travel, when able, in my free time. (Though the free time is quite scarce these days!)

Ratings: Private Pilot, training towards others

Aircraft Flown: Cessna 152, Cessna 172, Diamond Kitana, Diamond Star, Piper Cherokee, Piper Arrow, Piper Super Cub, American Champion Citabria, Great Lakes, Stearman

Favorite Taildragger: Impossible to choose! I’m torn between many aerobatic options!

I truly feel that you become one with a tailwheel aircraft. The enormous respect you have for a taildragger and the higher level of perfection you demand of yourself throughout every second of a flight from taxi in to taxi out makes you a one on one team with that airplane. I am intrigued and exhilarated by the highly active take-off and landing, and have become passionate about learning and mastering the countless capabilities of the aircraft.
