I was so close to Sun ‘n Fun but close doesn’t cut it. The sad fact is I had to leave my Decathlon at Zephyrhills, Florida just 50 miles from Lakeland. Timing is everything and there’s not much time after the daily airshow ends and the field closes for the day. Time ran out on me on Day 1, Tuesday of Sun ‘n Fun.
Oh so sad to leave my beauty behind. A rental car is NOT the way you’re supposed to arrive at Sun ‘N Fun! 🙁 Truth is, I’m not Antique, not Vintage, not Homebuilt so I’d have been shoved to the back-forty anyway so no serious regrets. Since arriving it’s been an exceptional couple days including visiting with the WASP ladies at the 99s Sun ‘n Fun Lakeland Headquarters Building. I was a meer bystander who was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. This is it – the place to be! You still have till Sunday to get here and be part of the action. ‘Tootsie Roll’ is here and that means her pilot, Lynn O’Donnell, is too!
You don’t have to wonder far to find a great line-up of taildraggers.
But it all comes down to the people you meet. Hi Debbie!
Woohoo, we had a very short notice, LadiesLoveTaildraggers gathering today and thanks to Facebook, the word got out. I brought tshirts and you can guess which was the most popular of the day!
Kathleen Hegenberger was there and even though she tells me she sold her Birddog, there’s a Legend Cub on Amphib floats in her future. 🙂
Our short-notice LadiesLoveTaildraggers meet-and-greet started off on shaky grounds. I posted we would meet at 2:00 at the SnF Sunset Cafe but the place turned out to be packed with people still at 2:00. We found our niche spot thanks to the owner of the little tiki bar inside the large pavilion. He literally gave us 1/3 of his bar space to display LLT tshirts, hang our banner and greet the ladies.
Thank you mystery man!!
Wish I had a shot of all the ladies together but so glad we snapped this one.
