Here’s a little side note about Martha Lunken, who happens to be one of my flying heros … no matter what. About 5 years ago I bumped into Martha at Grimes Field, Ohio. She’d flown her C180 that day and was having lunch with some guy, no doubt one of her many admirers. She probably gets pestered everywhere she goes but I decided I’d join the ranks and bug her a little too. I introduced myself and gushed about LadiesLoveTaildraggers, our mission, members, etc. and how I’d love for her to join. Martha thanked me kindly, didn’t bat an eye & and went on to tell me she never joins female organizations. Her experience with women’s groups has been lots of catty, bickering women and she didn’t want any part of it. In fact, she much prefers men. Well OK then! That, my friends, is the epitome of the Martha we love; someone who will look you in the eye and give it to you straight up, whether you like it or not!
