Update from Neroli in New Zealand!

This just sent in by one of our own lady taildraggers from New Zealand, Neroli Henwood! Enjoy.

Hi, just a few photos and update about what’s been happening with our family down in this part of the world.

Can you tell by my smile its been a great day!

We are enjoying the beautiful autumn weather and making the most of it before winter sets in. Not something I am looking forward to. I bet you Northern Gals can’t wait for that summer weather to really get started. We were horrified to see the photos, etc. of Sun ‘n Fun. Our condolences to those who had their planes damaged. When we were at New Holstein in 2008 we saw how quickly the weather could change and how violent the storms could be. However, it was not on the scale just seen at Sun ‘n Fun 🙁

We had a fly out to the central North Island of New Zealand recently on the most gorgeous day. We had an eclectic mix of 12 aircraft (4 taildraggers) ranging from Piper Cubs, Technams, C172 and Jodel D18 through to a ‘rag and tube’ Bantam microlight.

Our Piper Cub landing on the gravel strip at Aria

The destination was a topdressing strip on the side of a hill at Aria, on a 1000 acre sheep farm. The family that own the property had organised lunch for us at their beautiful house overlooking the airstrip. Sitting in the sunshine with great friends, looking across the valley at the pretty airplanes, ahh bliss! This always reminds me how lucky we are 🙂

Aircraft line up at Aria

This group of very keen fliers never needs an excuse to head off for the day and are very social. We get together on Friday nights for a BBQ which is a great way to end the week.

I have also included some photos of another fly out we recently went on. We met 11 other aircraft at Great Barrier Island which is near Auckland, NZ.

Beautiful coastline around Great Barrier Island

This area has spectacular islands and beautiful clear water. It is a mecca for boaties and diving.

The last bit of exciting news I have is that a friend and I are about to start building a Microlight Cub. It is a full size Replica, which we will build with wood to get it into our NZ microlight catagory. It will have an C 0-200 engine and very closely resembles a real cub. We will build it from plans. I have always wanted to build an airplane so this is really exciting. I will keep you posted 🙂

Best wishes and happy flying.

    Hi Anne and Lisa

We are so lucky in NZ that the country is so small and we have beautiful places to fly within easy reach.

All the ladies are welcome to visit!
