We had such a great Lady Taildraggers fly-in meeting!

We had a super meeting and super turn out at yesterday’s lady taildraggers flyin planning meeting at Savannah, TN. Val Thal-Slocom and Pattie Barnes flew in from Val’s grass strip “Hawk’s Nest” in her C195 and were full of great ideas. They are going to be a huge help at our flyin so when you see them be sure and thank them for all they are doing!

IMG_2576The Friday fly-out lunch is at Val’s strip and she and Pattie are going to be two very busy ladies preparing an amazing lunch for everyone who flys over. They tell me Val is quite a cook – we’re not talking hotdogs; Catfish Gumbo with catfish caught from a lake on their property. Venison Taco Soup –  venison from Vals daughter’s last hunt. Salad. AND….. specialty flavored cupcakes made by Pattie’s daughter (how does Banana Pudding or Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Cupcakes sound?)!!

IMG_2577I’m so happy to report 11 people made their way to Savannah, Tn for our fly-in planning meeting, 9 ladies and 2 very LUCKY guys. They came from Michigan, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio and Alabama to offer their ideas and help. Pretty incredible and SOOOOO helpful! Some ladies accepted big challenges; Fly-in Coordinators (the women with all the answers) will be Helen Brennan on Friday &  Pattie Barnes on Saturday. Saturday Porker run coordinator will be Anne Wright. And the one lady we all owe a big thank you to is Montill Warren who once again will have the biggest job, arranging food for the entire fly-in! Lots of other people will be pitching in to help too – thank you all!

And to Montill’s surprise an absolutely incredible announcement was made at the meeting. Union City TN Airport Manager Jo Ann Sperr chose the day our lady taildraggers were meeting with Montill to tell her she has been selected as an inductee into the Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame. Montill had no idea she had been selected for this honor and it was a delight to be there for the announcement.
IMG_2559I’m not positive but looked like I saw a few happy tears fall from Montill’s eyes when Jo Ann made the wonderful announcement.

Hey, a Tennessee state flag! Several of us decided it was a good photo op for a Tennessee flyin meeting.
